Can rosemary essential oil help regrow hair? This is a popular question that is asked often by many people and the short answer is yes it can!

What is rosemary essential oil?

Rosemary essential oil comes from a popular herb used to add aroma and flavour to hundreds of different dishes and is popular amongst all countries & cultures. Rosemary has many benefits for internal and external uses due to its abundant natural properties some of which are: antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and even neuroprotective properties (no wonder why it is so popular!).

Rosemary essential oil comes from heating rosemary leaf’s & stem at a very high temperature after which the by product is pure high concentrate rosemary oil. When in this form it is unsafe to consume due to its acidity.

Rosemary benefits for skin & hair?

When you apply rosemary essential oil to skin you will feel this sensation as if the skin is heating up & a slight stinginess, this is rosemary stimulating blood flow to the surface of the skin. Rosemary essential oil acts like a stimulant when applied to skin. This increases blood flow that reaches the surface of the skin. Blood naturally carries nutrient, oxygen which can help ease pains aches etc. This is why rosemary essential oil offers such great benefits when used as a massage oil.

When rosemary essential oil is applied to the scalp a similar reaction happens, blood flow to the scalp is increased therefore more nutrients are able to reach the surface of the scalp, therefore increasing the amount of nutrients reaching the roots/follicles of the hair, enabling a stable base for healthy, strong hair growth and even new hair.

Rosemary’s natural antibacterial properties also keep the scalp healthy by controlling the population of dandruff causing organisms known as Malassezia globose, which is a naturally occurring microorganism found on the human skin. If this organism grows out of control it can cause skin lesions such as dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis.

Rosemary essential oil for hair loss & hair growth?

As mentioned above rosemary essential can help increase hair growth and even make room for new hair. This is because it stimulates growth by increasing the amount of nutrients reaching the root of the hair, it is similar to massaging your scalp. Rosemary can also help reduce hairloss as well by dealing with one of the leading causes of premature hair loss, an unhealthy scalp. A study compared the leading hairloss treatment Minoxidil to rosemary essential oil, in which it found that many participants had more hair growth using rosemary essential oil over minoxidil without the side effects of minoxidil as well. This study is a sure sign that you must try rosemary essential oil for your hair troubles.

How to use rosemary essential oil?

In order to use rosemary essential oil (LINK ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL) we recommend you dilute it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, blackseed oil, jojoba, almond etc. A good measure for mixing is you should use 1 part essential oil and 3 parts carrier oil. So for every 1 drop of rosemary essential oil you would add 6 drops of carrier oil. If you do not dilute rosemary essential oil you risk skin burns which are not nice, trust me!!!

Massage this mixture to the scalp we strongly recommend you leave it overnight using sleep cap so your pillow case does not greasy, and wash in the morning. Alternatively you can add a few drop to your favourite shampoo.

To apply to skin and over joints use the same mixing proportions.
